• Shop around. I'm amazed by so many of my friends that are renting or have a mortgage on a house that is nearly double mine--not because they have twice the house--but because the failed to take the time to shop around. You can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars each year simply by doing your homework and moving into a place you can afford.
• Don't get more house than you need.
